We asked pro Swiss triathlete Julie Derron, last year’s winner of Challenge Kaiserwinkl-Walchsee

How did you like racing in Walchsee?
I loved racing in Walchsee. The whole town got behind the race, even in some challenging weather conditions. Everyone was super friendly and forthcoming, and there was a very familiar atmosphere. The course was challenging and beautiful, and I really enjoyed the whole weekend.

What’s your favourite part of this race?  Probably the Kaiserschmarn at the finish line 😉  Joking aside, my favorite part was the bike course. It was challenging and there was always something going on.

What specific tips would you give to first-timers doing the race?

Be prepared for a tough and technical bike course and make sure you fuel well to have energy until the last part of the race. And soak up the atmosphere of this special and beautiful race.

When will we see you in Walchsee next?

I hope this year, but if not this year, I will be back at some point.

Did you have any specific sessions before the race that you believe contributed to your victory?

I had had a very good block of training in St. Moritz before the race in Walchsee, so I do not think there was one particular session but the bulk of my work under my belt.
