Some positive news from Austria again, as CHALLENGEKAISERWINKL-WALCHSEE, which is the setting for this year’s Europe Triathlon Championships Middle Distance Aquabike and Aquathlon, has announced that the race is on course to take place on its original date: June 27. This is thanks to a comprehensive Covid-19 prevention concept that has been handed over to the government. “They are very supportive of that plan and also see the importance of this event. Every effort is being made to be able to race here in June”, said Race Director Ilona Klingler.

Since autumn 2020, no triathlon event has taken place in Austria so far and numerous big-name events had to be completely canceled, but now predictions are way more positive. Earlier this week it was already announced that also CHALLENGEST.PÖLTEN can go ahead and now follows this positive news for CHALLENGEKAISERWINKL-WALCHSEE. “Our team has been working very hard for this throughout the year, so we really want to be able to enjoy an unforgettable race together in June. Not only with the best European pro athletes, but also with as many Age Group athletes as possible as well. We are therefore very grateful for the support we are receiving from the government and the confidence they have in our plans.”

These plans include several things, among others of course paying attention to social distancing, but also having smaller starting groups so that athletes are automatically less crowded, extra hygiene measures, a better flow after the finish, a registration that only takes place online and in addition athletes must show a negative COVID-test. “In close consultation with the parties involved – including Europe Triathlon – we will continue to monitor the situation constantly so that the safety of athletes will always be guaranteed.”
